Program:
Use your miles for the TSA Pre✓® application program fee. TSA Pre✓® is an expedited security screening program for travelers departing from airports within the United States. The TSA Pre✓® application fee is currently $85 for five years. If you use your miles to pay for the application fee, the current miles price is 10,000 MileagePlus award miles per payment code. If your TSA Pre✓® application is approved you may be eligible to travel through security checkpoints at participating airports without having to remove your shoes, light jacket or belt, and your laptop and liquids can stay in your bag — making for a smoother and faster security screening process. The TSA uses unpredictable security measures, both seen and unseen, throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual is guaranteed expedited screening. Please note: Travelers who are eligible for TSA Pre✓® will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN). A KTN cannot be entered into a member’s MileagePlus profile unless the member’s name, gender and date of birth are already entered. Members who need to add or edit their name, date of birth or gender may do so in their Traveler Information on united.com. Please allow 14 days for changes to take effect.


Eligibility:
Only members with an account address in the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Guam who are physically located in the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Guam when the redemption occurs are eligible to use miles for a payment code that can be used to pay for the TSA Pre✓® application fee. Eligibility for TSA Pre✓® is determined solely by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). How it works:

  1. Visit the Use Your Miles to Get TSA Pre✓® page.
  2. Sign in with your MileagePlus account number and password.
  3. After you submit your purchase, we will automatically deduct miles from your account.
  4. You will receive a confirmation web page and email with the payment code(s).
  5. Visit the TSA’s application page and schedule your in-person appointment. Your code expires six months after you receive it, so make sure your appointment is prior to the code’s expiration date.
  6. Bring the payment code to your appointment as it will be required as your proof of payment for the $85 application fee. (You don’t need to print the web page or email unless you’d like, as only the number is required.)


Other terms and conditions:
MileagePlus members can use 10,000 MileagePlus award miles for a payment code to cover the cost of the TSA Pre✓® application fee. Pricing is subject to change without notice. Code expires six months after the date it was received. Once miles are used for a code, no refunds can be issued and miles cannot be returned to the member’s account, even if the code is not used. There is no guarantee that an applicant’s application for TSA Pre✓® will be approved, and no refunds or compensation will be made regardless of your eligibility outcome. Offer is limited to up to 10 codes per member per calendar year. Codes may not be resold. This offer is subject to change or cancellation without notice. Miles redemptions may only be made from a single account per transaction. You may not combine miles from two or more accounts on a single transaction. No MileagePlus award miles will be awarded in connection with any transaction made using MileagePlus miles.
