TSA PreCheck® is an expedited security screening program managed and operated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). It allows certain travelers to move through security more quickly and easily when departing from participating airports in the U.S. You must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to be eligible for TSA PreCheck® membership.
For more information, go to our TSA PreCheck® Program page or the TSA’s website.
If you’re approved for TSA PreCheck®, that approval lasts for a five-year period — it doesn’t matter if you used a payment code or money for the application fee.
Only members who are first time applicants of TSA PreCheck® and have a MileagePlus account address in the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Guam are eligible to use miles for a payment code. (TSA PreCheck® program membership is only open to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.) Please visit our Terms and Conditions for more information.
Approved TSA PreCheck® applicants are issued a Known Traveler Number (KTN) that can be added to reservations on all participating airlines. For the list of participating airlines, see the TSA’s website.
After you submit your purchase, you’ll receive the code on the confirmation page within a few minutes. You’ll also receive an email confirmation with the code.
Visit the TSA PreCheck® with miles page and sign in using the button in the upper right corner. Once you sign in, select the "My codes" link, also in the upper right corner. This will display all the codes you've purchased and you can either write them down or send another email with the codes in it.
Each code covers the TSA PreCheck® fee for one applicant of any age. Children ages 12 and under can travel with an eligible parent or guardian with TSA PreCheck®.
Yes, once miles are used for a code, any U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident who is eligible to apply for TSA PreCheck® can use the code as payment for the application fee. It does not have to be the MileagePlus account holder who used miles for the code. Please be sure the person has the code to complete payment at the in-person interview.
Each MileagePlus member can use miles for up to 10 codes per calendar year. The code does not need to be used by the MileagePlus member who purchased it. It can be gifted and given to someone else, such as a friend, family member or employee. Codes may not be resold.
You don’t need to print the confirmation page or email — just be sure you have the payment code written down somewhere so that you can show it as proof of payment.
Your payment code expires six months after you receive it. You need to use your code at your screening appointment before it expires. There are no refunds for expired codes.
The fee is used to process the application, so there is no mileage refund if your application is denied.
Yes, you’ll need to pay the application fee each time you apply for TSA PreCheck®.
